Wheat Payasam

This delicacy is generally prepared as an offering on festive occasions. It is very simple and easy to prepare and it takes about 5-6 minutes to make it

Broken Wheat and Jaggery are the key ingredients used in this recipe and prepared in a similar manner to the other payasams

Ingredients to serve 6 people

4 Tbs Broken Wheat
1 Cup Water
¼ Cup Jaggery (powdered)
2 Cups Cold (Pasteurised) or Boiled and Cooled Milk
1 Tbs Ghee
2 Tbs Chopped Cashew nuts
1 Tsp Cardamom powder
Few Strands Saffron (optional)

Preparation

Take one tablespoon of the ghee and fry the cashew nuts till the nuts turn golden brown and keep aside
Bring the cup of water to the boil in a medium sized pan
Stir in the wheat flour and mix it thoroughly on a medium flame for about 2-3 minutes
Add the powdered jaggery and simmer it for about 5 minutes, until it reduces to a slightly semi liquid consistency
Add the cardamom powder and keep aside
Pour the cold or boiled and cooled milk into the payasam and sugar syrup

Garnish it with the fried cashew nuts
