Hi All

One of the significant days this month is Karadiyan nombu which falls this year on friday the 14th of March –

Karidayan or Karadayan. Nombu is one of the festivals that I did not celebrate before marriage given my Andhra background as itis celebrated by Tamil speaking people!!

Nevertheless I take pride in saying that I have been celebrating this festival for nearly 3 decades and also religiously dishing out the famous Adais – both sweet and savoury, which is the main treat of the day.

The significance of this day is the tying of a yellow thread around the neck by the ladies in the household, offering the adais and chanting a small prayer as follows in Tamil ofcourse!!!!

‘I offer this unmelted butter and the adai to you – and I pray that my husband and I never be separated from each other””
