Curry Powder

Curry Powder or Koora Podi as it is very popularly known in Andhra Pradesh is a household name especially in Telugu families

This powder is very generously used in the preparation of most curries instead of grated coconut!!
This obviously enhances the taste and flavour of the curries!!!


1 Cup Coriander Seeds
¼ Cup Channa Dal
¼ Cup Urad Dal
An Inch of Tamarind
5-6 Dry Red Chillies
2 Tsp Oil
1-2 Tsp Salt

Koora Podi

Curry Powder


Heat oil in the pan
Add the coriander seeds, red chillies and the dals
Fry until the dals turn slightly golden brown
Cool and grind into a coarse powder

Bottled and used in the preparation of most curries!!

Note:  Personally if I do not have the curry powder handy, I tend to use a couple of  teaspoons of a mix of  Sambhar Powder and Coriander Powder!
