Whole Green Moong Dal Sundal

This Sundal recipe is made from whole green moong dal, which has a rich source of protein and is high in fibre.
There is an indication that this dal might even lower blood glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol.
This Dal can be left to sprout and the Moong Sprouts are used in salads.

Another quick and easy recipe as you do not need to soak the dal and can be prepared instantly!!


1 Cup Raw Whole Green Moong Dal
2 Cups Water (to cook the moong dal)
2 Tsp Oil
1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
1-2 Green Chillies (chopped)
A pinch of Asafoetida
2 Tsp Freshly Grated or Shredded Coconut
Few sprigs Curry leaves
1 Tsp Salt

Pressure cook the dal in a dish with the water for more than 4 -5 whistles

Heat the oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds
When the mustard seeds crackle, sprinkle the asafoetida powder and add the green chillies and curry leaves.
Stir through the cooked moong dal and sauté for about 2-3 minutes on a medium flame
Fold the freshly grated coconut and fry for about a minute or so

The sundal is ready to be served!
