The Raw Green Papaya is a wholesome fruit which is more nutritious than the ripe papaya.
The powerful enzymes are said to be lost when the fruit ripens. The raw papaya is packed with vitamins A, B, C and E, minerals, potassium and magnesium. It aids in digestion, boosts the immune system, fights infections and increase the elimination of toxins.
Personally, I am not a big fan of the ripened papaya – when the raw papaya was picked this morning from my parents’ garden, my brother in law suggested this wonderful recipe… Therefore, I would like to dedicate this recipe to my brother in law Prem Kumar Harihar!! with so much goodness – this simple, quick, tasty and easy recipe is not to be missed!!
Ingredients
2 cups Grated Raw Papaya
1-2 Green chillies (slit lengthwise in half)
1 Tsp Oil
1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
A pinch of salt
Heat the oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and when it splutters, add the green chillies.
Pour this into the bowl of grated papaya
Stir in the salt gently
The salad is ready to be served.
Note: The papaya can be either grated or chopped into small or medium pieces and garnished as above.
Dear Shobha
This is indeed delicious and wholesome. I find restaurants often add peanuts, would you recommend it ?
Also, can the same recipe be used to make Pomelo salad too ?
Thanks
Vish
Dear Vish
Thx for your time in browsing through the recipe as well as your valuable input!
Excellent idea to add peanuts as the crunchy bits would go well with it….ofcourse keeping in mind, people with peanut allergies….!
Pomelo salad can be prepared the same way and no effort is required to even grate it. The extra tanginess would add a wonderful flavour too, which is popular with Italian and Thai cuisine!
